Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Assistant Financial Controller will be an integral player in the functioning of the Accounting Department.  He or she will assist the Financial Controller in compiling timely and accurate financial management reports, as required by the corporate office and the owner, and will be responsible for the management of the Accounting, Purchasing, and Information Technology departments as designated in the departmental reporting flow chart and in the Financial Controller’s absence. The Assistant Financial Controller will assist the Financial Controller in order to ensure that proper internal controls are in place and will play a role in the development of the accounting staff including hiring, training, cross-training, and development in order to meet the hotel’s and the Company’s human resources needs.

  • Assisting the Financial Controller in order to ensure that all of the accounting staff understands and follows the applicable policies and procedures that are outlined in the Company’s accounting policies and procedures manual.
  • Monitoring and supervising the accounting department’s daily routines to ensure smooth, effective, and efficient daily work practices.
  • Supervising and assisting with account reconciliation’s, account analysis, and closing procedures at month end.
  • Verifying the accuracy and timeliness of all of the night audit transactions and monitoring adherence to established procedures. Also, the Assistant Financial Controller is responsible for the accuracy of all internal reporting (Daily Revenue Report, Daily Labor Report, Cash Over/Short report, etc.)
  • Supervising the filing and maintenance of all accounting related documents and records in accordance with the document retention section of this manual.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and timeliness or all operational tax reporting.
  • Conducting a productive monthly departmental meeting to communicate all pertinent departmental, hotel, and Company information.
  • Working with the Financial Controller to plan, recruit, and hire departmental staff. Also, the Assistant Financial Controller must oversee the training, cross training, and development of the departmental staff.
  • Performing related tasks and duties as assigned by the Financial Controller such as assisting with forecasting, budgeting, internal control, and completing account analysis.
  • Prepare all financial statements, accruals and journal entries, and maintain reconciliation’s for all balance sheet accounts in established corporate formats and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Coordinate, observe and prepare all operating equipment and supply inventories in accordance with corporate policies as directed by the Financial Controller.
  • Assist the Financial Controller in preparation of all budgets and forecasts.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of all Accounting staff including assisting them when necessary to stay current.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of all local, state and federal tax returns and other reporting on a timely basis.
  • Take appropriate personnel related action (i.e., hire, commend, discipline, evaluate, etc.,) with Accounting staff as required.
  • Participate in and develop staff training programs in order to minimize staff turnover activities and results of the Accounting office meeting or any other related issues.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner at all times to reflect the high standards of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and encourage staff to do the same.
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
  • Must be able to function on behalf of the Financial Controller in his absence.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of all jobs in the Accounting areas.
  • Must have a commitment to follow all local and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Must have a high degree of professional integrity and confidentiality, and work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the contents of all volumes of the Policy & Procedure.
