We are announcing a vacancy for the position of the Secondary School Science Teacher Assistant to start 1st of August 2022. The role of the Secondary School Science Teacher Assistant is to perform activities, which support the delivery of practical elements of science teaching by the teaching staff and assist in the smooth running of the Department and its materials. The position falls under the overall supervision of the Secondary School Science Head of Department.

The main responsibilities of the Science Teacher Assistant include:

  1. Supporting Learning
  • Support teachers and students in the planning and execution of investigations and practicals. 
  • Take initiative and be proactive.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and interest in STEM.
  • Commitment to Inspire, Empower and Engage students in all aspects of STEM education.
  • Enthusiasm in education
  • Assist with the preparation of teaching resources and materials.
  • Support individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills as designed and prescribed by the Science teacher.
  • Participate in professional development training to be at the forefront of STEM practices.
  1. Supporting the Science Department
  • Maintain prep room and storage room according to CLEAPSS standards.
  • Ensure cupboards in labs are fully labelled with contents.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions for use in lessons.
  • Ensure health and safety documentation is up to date and available.
  • Provide technical support to teachers.
  • Set-up before the lesson starts, apparatus requested by teachers.
  • Maintain equipment and apparatus used in the laboratories, including the prep room.
  • Dismantle, clean up and return at the end of the lesson, apparatus requested by teachers.
  • Maintain computerised inventory of all chemicals and science equipment.
  • Keep glassware clean and properly stored.
  • Assist in placing local Science orders and in the purchase of local materials for immediate use in experiments.
  • Collate the overseas Science order and prepare electronic orders for suppliers.
  • Receive deliveries and store received materials (receive, check & store material/equipment orders).
  • Monitor distribution and return of laboratory equipment and materials to primary school.
  • Monitor the storage of Science textbooks.
  • Conduct themselves in accordance with the health and safety policy of the school.
  • Carry out tasks set by The Science Head of Department during non-teaching days.
  • Carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Background in Science, Knowledge in Chemistry preferred.
  • Commitment to safety practices, experience in CLEAPSS training or other equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with ICT, and sensor probes. 
  • Experience in classroom environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills. 
  • The confidence to effectively communicate with students and teachers in English.
