Position: FIELD PROCESS OPERATOR

Department:  Operations Team
Working schedule: 12-hour shifts

1. POSITION SUMMARY

PP Field Process Operator is the team leader of PP Field Operators, namely PP Field Compressor, Pump and General Operators. His primary accountability is to ensure correct line-up and alterations to the process.
This position requires accurate and accountable performance of all necessary duties to ensure safe and efficient operations in the polymerization area. This position works under the immediate supervision of the DCS operator.

2. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor and record instruments, gauges, or other indicators and listen for warning signals, to verify conformity of process and production conditions.
• Perform regular production duties which include; monitoring, controlling, and documenting production flow and processing steps as well as manual operation of valves and other equipment.
• Record operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings on log sheets.
• Perform complex Lock out Tag out in accordance with LTT procedure.
• Observe/differentiate between standard conditions and deviations from normal (e.g. unusual sounds, smells, etc.)
• Control and operate chemical processes or systems of machines in polymerization, using local panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment.
• Inspect and monitor operating units such as towers, storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors, heat exchangers and driers to ensure that all are functioning, and to maintain maximum efficiency.
• Complete start-ups/shutdowns/changeovers/maintenance preparation/LOTO and other tasks in a safe, thorough and efficient manner to minimize equipment down time and to maximize the time the equipment is available for production.
• Cooperate with Production Management, Maintenance, and Engineering to identify and correct root causes of process downtime.
• Cooperate with Production Management and Engineering in completing process improvements and rate tests to identify optimum operating conditions.
• Operate pump, compressor, blower systems or equipment.
• Sampling of gaseous and liquid hazardous chemicals following procedures.
• Record sample results of products.
• Adjust equipment controls such as manual valves to regulate flow of production materials or products as per DCS operator request.
• Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel.
• Perform duties of field operator as required, inform control room during emergency and request appropriate emergency responses.
• Notify maintenance, stationary-engineering, or other auxiliary personnel to correct equipment malfunctions or to adjust power, steam, water, or air supplies.
• Notify others of equipment repair or maintenance needs.
• Responsible for notifying Shift Supervisor of any production problems.
• Ensure environmentally compatible disposal and recycling of waste.
• Defrost frozen valves, using steam hoses

3. TYPICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo in the plant. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
• Watching gauges or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Monitoring operations of equipment or systems.
• Correct technical English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Techniques for dealing with the public, in person and over the telephone or radio.
•  Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
•  Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
•  Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
•  Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
•  Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
•  Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Diploma in technical field (University or Vocational school)
• At least 3-5 years of practical experience in similar industry
