Job Title: Senior Rig Manager
Location: Azerbaijan, Onshore

A vacancy has arisen externally for a residential Senior Rig Manager position within Turan Drilling and Engineering, a joint venture Company between KCA Deutag and SOCAR AQS.

Senior Rig Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, cost effective management and control of operations on the drilling installations assigned to him/ her and under his/ her authority and is accountable for the safety of all persons working thereon. Shall manage Process Safety in all areas of his/ her assigned responsibility. Shall monitor, coach and train the two Rig Manager Assistant in all aspects of rig management to the point where they can be effective, competent Rig Managers in their own right. Shall cover the Operations Managers position in the event the Operations Manager is out of office for an extended period, i.e. more than 1- month.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Manage the operations assigned and ensure they meet the contractual quality and performance criteria;
• Supervise those to whom he/she delegates responsibility and ensures the effective operation of supporting services under his/her control;
• Coach, mentor and train the two Rig Manager Assistants under his/her supervision in all of the bullet points listed below in this section, Key Tasks, as well as all those listed in the Primary Responsibilities sections;
• Ensure that all well programs are executed properly, efficiently, safely and in accordance with Turan Drilling and Engineering and Client guidelines;
• Always liaise with the Operations Manager on all key issues in a timely and appropriate manner including times when deviations from Company Policies or Procedures are required;
• Conduct technical appraisals of drilling and workover programs, ensuring that any improvements, concerns or remedial actions required, are brought to the attention of the client in a timely and professional manner;
• Provide professional advice and guidance to the Senior Offshore Rig Supervisors and onshore support team;
• Ensure that critical performance evaluations of specialist contractors and sub-contractors are conducted with findings reported to the Operations Manager and client;
• Ensure accurate recording and reporting of all problem events including accidents/incidents;
• Take an active role in pre-spud and end-of-well meetings, ensures that complete reporting is undertaken and that all learning points are brought to the attention of the Operations Manager and the client;
• Ensure the installations under his/her control are maintained in accordance with Turan Drilling and Engineering CMMS, Industry standards and that all mandatory and other certification is maintained and up to date;
• Advice management on matters affecting the interpretation of the contracts affecting installations under his/her control and to deal with day-to-day contractual matters as directed;
• Review the performance evaluation of all personnel on the installation in terms of contractual requirements;
• Liaise with and support Offshore Supervisors in terms of human resource utilization and development;
• Initiate investigations and remedial actions on equipment or system failures affecting the installations under his/her authority;
• Produce monthly, routine and ad-hoc reports (as required) and distribute within the company. E.g. Monthly Performance Reports for the operating unit. Ensuring that all contractual performance related KPIs are monitored and progress against these is reported;
• Run / facilitate the delivery of any assigned business projects utilizing the company standard project methodologies;
• Ensure compliance with the company policies and procedures relating to Business Ethics, within the business area and where interface exists with other departments / operations / companies. Expediting any concerns to the appropriate person / group within the organization at the earliest opportunity;
• Conduct operational, performance, quality and safety audits to ensure compliance with Turan Drilling and Engineering and Client standards;
• Provide support as requested for contract administration, proposals and business development activities;
• Assist the Maintenance Superintendent in the management of the maintenance of drilling related equipment and ensure that these activities are carried out efficiently, cost effectively and in compliance with the authorised operating standards and procedures and Turan Drilling and Engineering Safety Policies;
• Pursue opportunities for new business and follow these up in conjunction with the Operations/Country Managers, Head of Operations Support and KCA Deutag Commercial Department;
• Manage the annual budget for his/her operations and strive to meet the financial targets.

Key Skills/Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:
• IWCF Well Control certification at Supervisor Level required;
• Well Engineering/Engineering degree preferable;
• Formal Management Qualification preferable.

Minimum experience:
• Competent in the management of Well Control situations;
• A minimum of 15-years industry experience;
• Extensive Oil Field experience in a Supervisory role.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work on own initiative/ as part of a team;
• Strong Safety leadership skills;
• Proven ability to manage and deliver against budget;
• Systems and processes knowledge.
