Role Overview

The Linux DevOps Engineer (Freelance) is a technical project role within the Pyxisys Communications software development team. The role is responsible for the development, deployment and support of a prototype web-based application for a major customer. This is phase one of a larger project and is expected to last approximately 2 months in duration. Success in phase one may lead to a significant ongoing project to develop a fully functioning enterprise Work Flow Management and Analytics system according to detailed customer requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform all day to day tasks such as:

• Creatively develop and fully document high performance and flexible system architectures and designs
• Create and implement intuitive and visually compelling UI/UX designs for both web and mobile
• Develop efficient and well-structured code according to company coding standards
• Develop back-end application services and integrate data from a variety of external services and databases
• Analyse, resolve and document software solutions and workarounds for software support tickets within SLAs
• Devise and document strategies to allow the reproduction of reported issues in a test/lab environment
• Create test strategies to demonstrate the successful resolution of reported issues
• Define migration and rollout strategies to successfully launch solutions into live environments
• Produce and maintain appropriate architecture, design, and test-plan technical documentation

Key skills and experience

• A “full stack” DevOps engineer with 3 to 5 years’ prior work experience
• Experience with development of work flow/financial/audit/GRC web applications is a strong advantage
• Linux systems administration background preferably with exposure to RHEL or CentOS
• Emphasis on complete lifecycle software engineering skills, rather than just programming.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services and other cloud infrastructure administration is an advantage
• Strong experience with developing and customising simple but powerful and intuitive user interfaces
• Strong experience with the technology Stack: Linux, Apache+mod_wsgi, Python, Django, PostgreSQL
• Strong experience in developing enterprise web applications and web APIs (e.g. REST, SOAP)
• Strong understanding of performance, security and scalability needs for enterprise client-server systems
• Strong experience with SOA and Microservices architectures
• Strong experience with the GIT version control system
• Ability to design development and production server environments
• Ability to develop scripts (e.g. BASH, Perl, PHP, Python) for automation of admin and deployment activities
• Familiarity with command-line based administration and troubleshooting of Linux server systems
• Good oral and written communication skills and organisational and time management skills
• Proactive solution/results-oriented approach
• Independent analytical/self-study approach to understanding new technologies and gaining new skills
• Ability to develop strong, positive and effective working relationships at all levels of seniority.
• Strong skills with typical office applications (e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
• Keen interest in new technology and the application of technology to improve business operations
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Customer first mindset

Educational and language requirements

• University degree educated in a relevant scientific or engineering subject
• Strong written and oral communication in English, Russian and Azerbaijani languages
