JOB TITLE: Rig Superintendent

LOCATION:             AZERBAIJAN

JOB TYPE:  28/28 or  14/14

KCA DEUTAG is one of the largest international drilling operation contractors in the Caspian region, having  a history of over 125 years of drilling and engineering activities across the globe, and undertakes projects in some of the most harsh and demanding environments in the world.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (but not be limited to):

Liaising closely with their Rig Manager on all key issues in a timely and appropriate manner;  Supervise all drilling, workover (and/or concurrent well intervention where appropriate) and well maintenance activities, including the management of KCA DEUTAG services contractors and support personnel, to ensure that all operations meet contractual quality and performance criteria; Ensure that all well programmes are executed properly, efficiently, safely and in accordance with Group, Client and Health & Safety Executive guidelines; Ensure that all Offset Well, Logging Data and specialist information is effectively utilised to optimise drilling operations;  Conduct technical appraisals of drilling and workover programmes, ensuring that any improvements, concerns or remedial actions required, are brought to the attention of the Rig Manager;  Provide advice and guidance to Shift Supervisors and Drillers on all operational matters as may be required;  Ensure that critical performance evaluations of specialist sub-contractors are conducted and findings reported to the Rig Manager;  Ensure accurate recording and reporting of all problem events including accidents/incidents;  Take an active role in pre-spud and end-of-well meetings, ensuring that complete reporting is undertaken and that all learning points are brought to the attention of the Rig Manager;  Ensure that Rig requisitions are complete and sufficiently detailed to allow them to be processed without additional onshore input.  Authorise requisitions at the appropriate level; Direct rig-up, rig-down, dismantling and moving of rig and auxiliary equipment, and supervise Drillers and drilling crews in setting up and operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner;   Ensure good housekeeping and safe working conditions are maintained on the rig;  Complete all required drilling and safety (or platform) reports in a timely manner, such as Drilling Report, Operational Plan, Engine Report, Machinery Report, Pump Report and other records;  Evaluate all work carried out to the requirements of the Permit-to-Work system, initiate and write Permits-to-Work as necessary and ensure that all safety precautions are taken and only work is carried out stated in the Permit-to-Work;  Responsible for the supervision of personnel engaged in activities in their area of responsibility or for which they have been allocated responsibility by their supervisor; Responsible for the performance management of the personnel under their authority to ensure standards of behaviour and performance expected by the Group;  Monitor, supervise and coach any Service company or Vendor company representatives that may be involved in the operations on the rig; Stand-in for alternative work discipline as required;  Complete any other reasonable tasks as delegated by Line Management;  Attend onshore or offshore meetings and additional training, as required;  Prepare suitable handover documentation to allow their relief to become familiar with status of operation and ensure their supervisors do similar; Ensure control and well bore pressures within the operating limits of the equipment in use, also testing and certification of all Well Control equipment.

(p) Responsible for the performance management of the personnel under their authority to ensure standards of behaviour and performance expected by the Group.
(q) Monitor, supervise and coach any Service company or Vendor company representatives that may be involved in the operations on the rig.
(r) Stand-in for alternative work discipline as required.
(s) Complete any other reasonable tasks as delegated by Line Management.
(t) Attend onshore or offshore meetings and additional training, as required.
(u) Prepare suitable handover documentation to allow their relief to become familiar with status of operation and ensure their supervisors do similar.
(v) Ensure control and well bore pressures within the operating limits of the equipment in use.

Educational and Experience Requirements

Minimum of 10 years' Oil Field experience; Cyber Rig Experience is essential;Experience in supervision of drilling rig and equipment, supervision of personnel.
Valid IWCF Well Control Supervisor's Level;
Safety ensurance;
Systems and processes knowledge; people and quality management skills

Other Special Requirements  

Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team; Excellent Communication Skills;  Ability to coach and mentor others; Time Management skills; Should be effective communicator and able to demonstrate effective coaching and mentoring skills in order to share their knowledge, experience and facilitate learning amongst the crews.
