Purpose

Sibley International announces this vacancy for 2 long-term local staff to provide translation and interpretation services to the ACT Project staff. The Interpreters/Translators will respectively assist project staff from Component 1 and 2 (on primarily business and trade related legal and other documents) or Component 3 (agriculture) as requested. The Interpreters/Translators will report to the COP or her designee.

Background

USAID’s Azerbaijan Competitiveness and Trade (ACT) Project is a three year project implemented by Sibley International that aims to improve the legal and regulatory environment for businesses, create a more open and transparent trade environment, and strengthen value chains in Azerbaijan (especially in agriculture). As members of the ACT Operations team, the Interpreters/Translators will assist in the administration of project related issues as deemed necessary for the efficient implementation of the project. The candidates should have specific expertise in working with legal, banking, business,and/or agriculturalsectors. Specifically, the interpreters/translators are responsible for:
• Interpreting during meetings of project experts and/or managers with government officials and/or other donor organizations.
• Translating legislative and administrative documents and correspondence submitted and/or prepared by project expert and/or managers.
• Translating and proofreading presentation slides and hand-outs prepared for training sessions conducted by project experts.
• Travel with other ACT Project staff to interpret on business trips throughout Azerbaijan.
• Assisting with translation of news summaries, press releases, website content, and other tasks as assigned.
• Assisting with other tasks including event support and general administrative duties.
• Confirming that the translation of reports presented by contracted translators or other project administration staff is done correctly.
• Preparing regular translation progress reports and submitting them to the Translation Coordinator.
• Consulting with project staff as needed to ensure proper translation of written materials.
• Additional assignments as requested by the COP or her designate
Qualifications
•  Excellent oral and written communications skills in both Azerbaijani and English.
•  Experience in consecutive interpretation in both Azerbaijani and English.
•  Previous translation/interpretation experience in legal, banking, international business, or agriculture sectors.
•  Creativity, flexibility, the ability to multi-task while paying attention to execution and detail.
•  Ability to support different sectors, and to quickly grasp new ideas and challenges.
•  Willingness and availability to travel with team member to meetings in regions across Azerbaijan.
•  Have exceedingly strong desire to be successful, including a willingness to work long hours under pressure.
• Educational background in linguistics or related field a plus.
• The preference will be given to the candidates with the respective background in legal/bank/business and/or agriculture sectors.
