Position: Technical Office Manager

Job description:

• The basic function is managing and directing all engineering/technical activities;
• Champion project cost, assembly time, development, product design, analysis, testing, quality, reliability and supervise in-house construction, vendor out-sourcing, modifications, engineering change orders, vendor outsourcing for processes and trouble-shooting for all new and existing tools used by the company;
• Define priorities, create schedules and assign work to implement Engineering schedules based on staff availability. Change work assignments in response to schedule changes or problems with staffing;
• Manage, plan and direct all engineering activities within the Department, including design, development, production and testing. Address and solve performance/operational issues to improve process inefficiencies;
• Lead and develop the engineering team to optimize the use of resources and systems, and ensure the company maintains a standard of timeliness and high quality at all times in line with Company Policies;
• Assign employees to jobs and tasks based on abilities, skills and the need for development. Monitor work activities;
• May assist in performing unique set-ups, trouble-shooting mechanical or electrical problems, or demonstrating proper machine operations.

Requirements:

• Structural Steel & Machining Experience;
• Ability to guide, direct, and coordinate the Engineering staff in carrying out the Engineering functions of the Company;
• Versed in report writing and direct negotiation of engineering and research contracts;
• Ability to identify complex problems and review related to develop and evaluate opinions to implement solutions;
• Ability to read blueprints and operate engineering software such as AutoCad/SolidWorks 2017, with strong knowledge and experience with machining and welding principles;
• Have a comprehensive hands-on solid understanding of all contract documents, designs, specifications, etc., not limited to machining and assembly knowledge;
• Strong Math skills, (i.e., Algebra and basic math), to ensure understanding of budgetary considerations coupled with strong reading and listening skills;
• Ability to communicate and interface with colleagues, to manage and to motivate engineering and manufacturing group personnel - while incorporating constructive service suggestions;
• Ability to monitor performance within the Engineering Department and take action when necessary to improve performance levels;
• Knowledge of MS Office (Excel and Word) and other design systems supporting the company's needs CAD/CAE software Tekla Structures and SAP2000;
• Adaptable to change and displays flexibility, ability to work within deadlines;
• Ability to control, minimize and investigate engineering breakdowns and ensure cost effective solutions are in place to meet customers' needs;
• Proven record of coaching others while managing personnel.
