The position is responsible for the largest span of control for the Group’s critical assets and personnel. The Director of Security Operations is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a security program aimed at mitigating physical risk and safeguarding people, property and assets of the Group. The Director has responsibility for the effective management of all aspects of physical security of the premises occupied by the Group enterprise-wide, to include diverse businesses in food and fashion retail.

This position will also be responsible for the creation and implementation of physical security programs that minimize the vulnerability of the Company’s employees and assets from harm, loss, and/or compromise resulting from dishonest, criminal, and/or inappropriate acts. This position requires effective leadership, organizational and communication skills and will collaborate with and execute all other tasks assigned by the General Manager.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Policies & Procedures

• Devise policies and procedures regarding areas such as business continuity planning, loss prevention and fraud prevention, and privacy.
• Oversee and coordinate security efforts across the company, including information technology, human resources, communications, legal, facilities management and other groups.
• Identify security initiatives and standards.
• Manage the development and implementation of security policy, standards, guidelines and procedures across the Group.
• Develop risk management assessments.
• Develop procedures to ensure physical safety of employees and visitors.
• Create workplace violence awareness and prevention programs.
• Develop emergency procedures and incident responses.

Team development

• Manage security staff, which includes making employment (hire/termination/salary adjustments) decisions, reviewing employee performance, coaching and mentoring, encouraging career development, addressing escalated issues, generating assignments, and setting priorities.
• Develop relevant induction courses for new employees, as well as periodical trainings on security issues for current employees.
• Develop good relationships with local police forces and other security agencies to ensure appropriate police response/support and adherence to industry best practices

Periodical (daily) Routines

• Maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and employees by establishing and enforcing security policies and procedures; supervising the security guard force.
• Direct and undertake investigations around any issues in relation with all aspects of physical security, safety, loss prevention etc.  Report results and recommend action on the leadership level and to the General Manager.
• Ensure security related incidents are investigated and resolved with the minimum of operational disruption.
• Continually monitor and assess conditions that relate to potential threats, vulnerabilities and risks to the enterprise.
• Ensure security is maintained and updated.
• Implement video surveillance.
• Prioritize security initiatives.
• Investigate security breaches. Conduct audits to find holes in security platform.
• Implement disciplinary procedures.

REQUIRED FROM CANDIDATES

• Previous senior management experience managing security operations that required the development of security strategies, budgets, resource allocation plans and coordination with other senior leaders.
• Ability to function as an integral part of the executive management team to provide security counsel for enterprise wide strategic planning
• Ability to identify, analyze and explain the present or future needs for proposed security initiatives to executive management.
• Ability to conduct risk/threat assessments and develop measures to mitigate identified risks.
• Confidential investigative skills required.
• General knowledge of access control systems.
• General knowledge of security network video recorder applications.
• Strong working knowledge of security clearance process and background checks.
• Quick analytical mind and a decisive nature
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
• Capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to coordinate proactive and effective responses in a high stressed environment.
