The British Embassy Baku is seeking applications for the position of Defence Relations Officer.

The successful candidate will be a highly organised and creative individual with a dynamic personality, strong organisational and communication skills.  

The UK Ministry of Defence is represented in the Caucasus region by a Defence Attaché, resident in Tbilisi, who also has responsibility for UK Defence related activities in Azerbaijan.  The post of Defence Relations Officer in the British Embassy Baku provides local support to the work of the Defence Attaché.

The British Embassy Baku would like to invite applications for the position of A2 (L) Defence Relations Officer.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Acting as the Defence Attaché’s representative in Azerbaijan.
• Acting as a contact point between the Defence Section and various military and civilian institutions, particularly the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan.
• Timely reporting and analysis of current political/military events in Azerbaijan and the wider region, which are to be communicated to both the Defence Attaché, UK Ministry of Defence and Embassy/FCO colleagues.
• Arranging visit programmes, meetings and visits.
• Meeting and escorting official UK Ministry of Defence visitors.
• Acting as an interpreter during meetings.
• Maintaining and delivering the Security Cooperation Activity Programme for Azerbaijan.  This includes: initiating the selection of candidates for foreign based, UK sponsored, defence related courses and activities; the co-ordination of all travel arrangements; and the maintenance of the student database.
• Maintaining a small number of office systems, including data management.
• Accurately translating written correspondence.
• Maintaining, overseeing and administering over flight and landing requests and any emergency short notice medical repatriation flights – an operational requirement.
• Supervising and managing the locally contracted Defence Section Driver.
• Any other tasks as directed by the Defence Attaché and Assistant Defence Attaché.

Ideal Candidate will have

• Good contacts in the defence and security institutions of Azerbaijan.
• An understanding of defence and security related issues in Azerbaijan and the region.
• A high standard of written and spoken English (candidates may be required to sit English language tests).
• Good organisational skills.
• An analytical and enquiring mind.
• The ability to work quickly and reliably with limited supervision.
• Strong IT skills, including familiarity with MS Office suite of programs.

Please note that this position may involve some out of hour’s commitments (networking, receptions, and seminars), which is compensated for through the provision of Time Off In Lieu (TOIL).

Salary and Employment

General Embassy working hours are 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday.  Monthly gross salary for this position is AZN 1,348.15 payable monthly in arrears.  In addition, the successful applicant will receive a comprehensive medical insurance package and excellent training opportunities.
