Light Technician and/or Light Designer
Duties & Responsibilities
Our recent and ongoing investment into additional fixtures and control has created openings in our lighting department. In order to be successful within this role you must have extensive experience setting up, operating and dismantling mid to large scale events. A good knowledge of all aspects of lighting technology, experience of programming and operating lighting consoles and hold a flair for design. We are expecting from you:
- Inventory control, to repair, to updating consoles and fixtures
- Testing, troubleshooting and component level repair of moving lights, consoles, dimming systems etc. is a plus
- Analyze and fix inventory shortages
- Interpreting a lighting designer's plan.
- Rigging, focusing and operating necessary lighting equipment.
- Programming consoles and loading automated colour change systems before a show.
- Taking cues from the stage manager.
- Operating manual and computer-controlled lighting systems during a show.
- Maintaining the lighting equipment in good safe working condition.
- Taking on frontline electrical maintenance duties when needed
- Operating within current health and safety regulations to ensure a safe environment.
- Keeping abreast of the advances in technologies and techniques in the industry.
- CAD, WYSIWYG, and Vector works skills are an advantage.
- Observe safe wiring practices and maintain equipment in accordance with industry standards for safe operations.
Skills & Education background
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3 years experience as a moving light operator and console programmer
- Field experience with repairs and troubleshooting
- Training in electronics and/or automated lighting
- Experience in the use of digital test equipment to perform repairs on moving lights
- A good understanding of lighting specifications, the principles of AC/DC electricity, motion control, digital communications
- Experience in current rigging practices and regulations
- Willing to work physical and taking responsibility (working hours usually long and unpredictable)
- Forklift license - Related Engineering Degree
Preferred:
- Previous experience with Clay Paky, Martin and Robe products
- Advanced computer skills (PowerPoint, Access etc.)
Salary Range: Contingent upon experience.
