IT Services Engineer

Job Summary:

The IT Services Engineer will develop a strong understanding of the IT function, which supports a wide variety of IT services within IT Operations, Infrastructure, and IT Business Systems.

Relationships:

- Reports to one of the following: GeoMarket IT Manager, Team Leader (Service Operation), Service Manager, Software Lead Architect or IT Project Manager
- Works with Network Services, System Services, Security Services, Onsite Support Services, Project Management and/or Architecture teams

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

General Responsibilities for IT Services Engineer:

- Performs tasks as a member of the assigned team to gain experience and knowledge of the job as designated by supervisor
- Works with at least 2 IT sub-segments during a three-year period
- Completes GET-IT training roadmap for IT Services Engineers on time
- Tracks all requests via the designated Incident, Problem or Configuration Management system
- Records progress and makes regular reports to IT Training and Staffing Manager
- Implements, supports, uses, and communicates existing best practice policies and procedures
- Works with decision makers, stakeholders, and clients to define business requirements, system goals and help resolve client issues
- Adheres to all standards of confidentiality and security
- Acts as a mentor to junior members of the team or contractors
- Complies with all QHSE policies

The IT Services Engineer will work in one of the following categories:

Network Services:

- Maintains the network support process
- Deploys customers LANs, WANs and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs and other communication and related hardware
- Uses network management software and tools to investigate and diagnose network problems, collect performance statistics, and create reports
- Implements new network equipment, hardware and software upgrades
- Participates in implementing all network security solutions
- Conducts research on network products, services, protocols and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
- Interacts with vendors and contractors to secure best network products

System Services:

- Maintains the distributed services/systems support process
- Monitors/updates IT security elements
- Sustains computer operating systems on various host computers
- Ensures that critical business systems continue to run efficiently with optimum performance
- Maintains databases and manages backup, data recovery, user access and security functions
- Updates operating systems and patches to supported release levels for OS and database environments
- Recommends specific hardware/software for different solutions and provides estimated pricing and purchase orders
- Programs scripts to automate simple tasks within established standards
- Manages the daily duties and mentoring of contractors
- Establishes general security network requirements and audits systems to ensure compliance

Security Services:

- Understands and maintains IT infrastructure and interdependencies of aggregate parts
- Develops and deploys security solutions to address business needs
- Understands the business impact of security decisions on operations

Onsite Support Services:

- Resolves desktop or laptop related incidents, service requests or changes in a multi-protocol network environment
- Provides service for incident tickets related to the site's desktop and laptop computer hardware, location specific software and peripherals
- Provides support for connectivity issues to home-workers, mobile staff, etc
- Responsible for configuration control and audit of all desktop equipment

Software/Project Analyst:

- Deploys, administers and supports the assigned application(s)
- Participates in vendor screening and evaluation
- Implements tools to assist in executing processes more efficiently to accomplish the business strategy
- Makes recommendations to modify existing processes to accomplish the business strategy
- Facilitates business process reengineering (Analyze trends and statistics and deliver recommendations and action plans for process improvement)
- Translates high level requirements into function specifications for the IT Organization and manages changes to the specifications.
- Negotiates agreements by facilitating communication between Stakeholders and IT from initial requirements to final implementation.
- Defines key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure adoption of Applications & Processes.
- Develops & maintains Process documentation.
