Job Description

Main Responsibilities

• Setting machinery following the Job Card and Process Sketch Data and using relevant 'set up' sheets.
• Use measuring equipment to inspect machine components
• Responsible for ensuring work meets engineering sketch or drawings requirements and recording information and tolerances as required by job card and company procedures,
• Ensuring that all components or parts are handled and stored appropriately.
• Manage own workload while ensuring high quality of work and timely completion
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
• Machine parts to specifications using workshop machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
• Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
• Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
• Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
• Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
• Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
• Always comply with all safety policies and procedures.
• Responsible for attending mandatory safety training and reading and recognizing new policies and procedures as they come into effect.
• Performs routine safety inspections workshop equipment as assigned by supervisor.
• Carries out routine inspections and maintenance on workshop equipment as per equipment maintenance requirements and planned maintenance regimes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge

• Experience working as a skilled Machinist (manual and/or CNC).
• Conversant with standard engineering and mechanical drawings.
• A flexible approach to changing work priorities and the ability to work on own initiative as part of a small team are essential.
• Experience in reclamation, machining parts for the repair and overhauls of rotating equipment.
• Education -Technical School, Mechanical Engineering qualification or Diploma
• Experience -Minimum 5 Years as a workshop machinist.
