Role synopsis

Due to significant growth in the region, PD&MS Group are looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join the team based in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for the management of planned project upgrades and emergent work for the optimisation of the client owned offshore drilling rig installations in collaboration with Drilling Contractors and Engineering Contractors. 

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Projects Delivery Manager the successful candidate will be required undertake the following tasks:
• Direct engineering contractors toward timely and cost efficient delivery of rig related equipment repairs, modifications and upgrades.
• Serve as a technical expert for drilling and rig related equipment.
• Advise the DC&I TA, Wells Manager and Engineering Authority on issues relating to technical integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Be a resident technical expert on the rigs and rig equipment for each client, or Contractor, rig working in Azerbaijan.
• Manage the planning and scheduling activities for delivery of rig related equipment repairs, modifications and upgrades.
• Be engaged in the review and approve all Management of Change’s (MoC) relating to work fronts – rig equipment, repairs, modifications, and up-grades.
• Manage the corrective actions of weaknesses and inefficiencies in the current rig systems and equipment, and approve cost effective repairs / upgrades / replacements / modifications as identified by studies.
• Manage rig equipment upgrade / modification engineering studies for safety critical issues and implementation of expedient and cost effective solutions.
• Manage the interface with our Vendors/Suppliers, Engineering Contractors and Drilling Contractors to implement agreed solutions and optimizations.
• Manage factory acceptance tests (FATs) and QA/QC of all new rig equipment for existing rigs.
• Manage and ensure compliance with client and industry standards for rig maintenance and rig equipment for all the client rig units.
• Manage the technical evaluation and deviation permits for any exceptions to the STP’s.
• Assist in the preparation of a yearly budget for the control of the rig repair, up-grades, and modifications work program.
• Contribute to the development a long term strategy for ownership and integrity assurance of the client owned rig fleet in Azerbaijan.
• Provide expertise within the various drilling systems and their operation and have a good knowledge and understanding of engineering, planning, construction and commissioning of these systems.
• Act as the primary source of technical advice to the organizational Technical Authorities (TA) regarding the drilling mechanical systems. 
• Ensure close alignment with the well operations teams in Baku and BP personnel in similar roles in both the North Sea & Gulf of Mexico.
• The Rig Engineering Mechanical Project Engineer will report directly to the Project Lead – client Rig Upgrades. 
• Responsible for the management of planned project upgrades and emergent work for the optimization of the client owned offshore drilling rig installations in collaboration with Drilling Contractors and Engineering Contractors

Essential qualifications and experience

• Degree or Technology certificate in engineering or related field
• Significant experience in rig repair / upgrade / modification / management both technical and operational
• Industrial experience, including a combination of hands on, supervisory and engineering activity.
• Ability to judge the sufficiency of personnel capability (staff, contractors and vendors) for the scope of his/her engineering responsibility.
• Understands the principles of risk management. Ability to initiate and participate in task risk assessments.
• Experience in participating in HAZOPS and HAZIDS for MOC proposals. 
• Strong project management and planning background in rig equipment upgrade and modifications.
• Strong mechanical equipment knowledge from hands on experience
• Good knowledge of the various types of drilling systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on Team work
• Good understanding of bp project management systems and processes
