Job Description

1.0 General:

The Project Engineer is assigned by the Manager, Project Engineering. Act as a technical generalist in a variety of disciplines including but not limited to equipment, civil, structural, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical. Act as the overall coordinator for all internal and external engineering on projects as required. In this capacity, is responsible for the successful integration of the piping, equipment, civil/structural, instrument, and electrical design activities.

2.0 Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Project Engineer shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Acting as the deputy to the Project Manager and providing back-up for the Project Manager as required.
• Completing all assigned tasks as delegated by the PM.
• Coordination of internal and external engineering activities and the interdisciplinary interfaces in close coordination with the discipline team leaders.
• Ensure technical requirements defined in the contract are properly incorporated in the engineering deliverables.
• Manage and facilitates communication across the engineering functions to ensure that the project objectives and needs are met.
• Coordinates Internal and External Design Reviews.
• Support the Cost Control and Forecasting activities in the engineering disciplines.
• Monitor the execution of the quality assurance program for conformance to project requirements.
• Coordination and of internal and external claims and technical issues
• Lead technical negotiations and bid evaluation for package units and other costly equipment.
• Provide liaison services between engineering and construction. Attend bid conferences or bid walks for the major subcontracts on the assigned projects. Provide bid review and scope compliance analysis of the subcontractor proposals.
• Coordinate and lead plant constructability review meeting prior to 30% design review.
• Support Construction by attending site on a regular basis to ease the flow of and resolution of field RFI’s.
• Review and provide input on P&IDs.

• Prepare Construction Bid Package documents, in collaboration with construction engineering, for project construction subcontracts. This will include initial preparation to final (conformed) contract package.
• Conduct weekly engineering project meetings.

3.0 Education and Experience Required:

• BS in engineering, BSME or BSChE preferred.
• A minimum range of two to five total engineering experience, at least one year of which shall have been accrued working as an engineer in a process oriented, E/C company or in an operating company with project engineering duties.

4.0 Skills Required:

• Possess a broad understanding of the major design engineering disciplines, i.e., Piping, Equipment, Process, Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, and Electrical.
• Basic understanding of continuous flow chemical/physical processes typical of hydrocarbon processing, hydrogen production, and/or air separation.
• Effective leadership skills.
• Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office Software, Lotus Notes, and other Company and discipline specific software applications.
• Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.
• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Professional engineer registration desired.
