BP in Azerbaijan is a major stakeholder and operator for Oil & Gas development in the Caspian Sea Region. The Region currently has one of the largest energy developments in the world with over $20 billion invested, which will deliver Oil & Gas to both Region & European markets. The operating asset includes over 150 wells in Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) Oil & Gas Fields, and the Shah Deniz high pressure gas condensate development. Wellstock includes production wells, water & gas injection wells. BP also operates the Baku-Tablisi-Ceyhan pipeline and South Caucasus pipeline for transport to market.
Role synopsis
The Wells Function includes Drilling, Completions, Well Interventions, and Well Integrity. In the AGT Region, the Senior Offshore Completion & Intervention (C&I) Supervisor is a rotational position that reports directly to the Team Leader for Well Intervention Operations. The Senior Completions and Interventions (C&I) Supervisor is a “Safety Critical Role” within BP. The Supervisor is accountable for stand-alone leadership to deliver safe & compliant offshore operations during “execute stage”. The Senior Supervisor provides leadership during New Well Completion open-hole gravel pack jobs, and Wellwork jobs (including well surveillance & well integrity). Prior to going offshore, the Senior Supervisor is responsible for “onshore” job planning & preparation. The Senior Supervisor leads Teamwork with several Onshore Engineers and Service Providers. When offshore, the Senior Supervisor is the single point of contact for “ready-to-execute” on the rig. The role requires leadership with Drilling, Platform Production Operations and others.
Key accountabilities
Compliance with Health, Safety, Environment (HSE):
• Maintain up-to-date HSE competencies through formal trainings.
• Lead safe & compliant New Well Completion jobs & Wellwork jobs.
• Take a lead role in morning safety meetings, risk assessments.
• Lead tool box safety conversations, and “time-out-for-safety” sessions.
• Take a lead role with safety conversations with Service Providers.
• Assure conformance with BP Drilling & Wells Policies, Procedures.
• Lead role with “how we work” using the Operating Management System.
• Procedural Discipline (follow written procedures; BP, Service Providers).
• Use procedure “Hold Points” to refocus rig site Control of Work.
• Lead “rig-floor” control of work (especially with Service Providers).
• Hold personnel to account for safe execute stage; “stay-in-the-moment”.
• Assure Service Provider competencies (before job start).
• Assure Service Provider participation with Integrated Safe System of Work.
• Lead Well Control preparedness, and hold regular Well Control drills.
• “Walk-the-Line” to prevent Loss of Primary Containment.
• Lead Service Provider participation in safety observations & reporting.
• Participate in incident investigations (lead role as needed). Onshore Planning Stage:
• Collaborate with engineering staff during program development.
• Refresh “learning” from previous jobs (to help prevent incidents).
• Participate in Well-work planning and provide technical input into programs.
• Participate in New Well Completion planning & provide input to programs.
• Take a lead role with onshore planning and “Crew Engagement” sessions.
• Conduct onshore witnessing for equipment assembly make-up & testing.
• Participate in onshore “Competency Assessment” of Service Providers.
• Participate in equipment integrity assurance processes.
• Lead role with equipment qualification process (and stack-up testing).
• Lead role with equipment design reviews, yard inspection & trials.
• Lead role in HAZard Operational (HAZOP) sessions, and peer-review-to-operate (as needed).
• Help maintain accurate inventory of materials & equipment.
• Witness safety critical equipment maintenance & testing (onshore).
• Refresh completion & intervention practices & operational procedures.
• Coordinate equipment & personnel logistics to offshore platform rig. Offshore Execute Stage:
• Designated single point of contact for “ready-to-execute” on the rig.
• Accountable for safe & compliant Supervision during execute stage.
• Prepare and manage well file information folders.
• Prepare daily “BP Open Wells” report, and daily operational reports.
• Supervise rig-site preparation (New Well Completion, Wellwork).
• Safely manage “well handover” from Platform Ops Team (and back).
• Follow procedures to execute job tasks in a safe & compliant manner.
• Maintain robust fluids management throughout the job.
• Measure and record Bottom Hole Assembly, sub-assemblies, tubing and all other Interventions/completions equipment (prior to running).
• Assure effective shift-to-shift handover documents (day / night shifts).
• Accurate & timely reporting, drawings, handovers, comms to onshore.
• Use procedure “hold points”, and stop-the-job (if needed).
• Lead as a “Technical Coach” for less experienced BP Staff.
• Capture job learning during execute stage (and discuss with engineer).
• Lead communication about job execution (to onshore staff).
• Lead feedback about Non-Productive Time (NPT) to onshore staff.
• Manage offshore logistics for equipment & personnel.
• Manage well handover documents between shifts (day and night).
• Implement “continuous improvement” for each job.
• Provide input into End-of-Well-Reports, and After Action Reviews.
Essential Education
- Bachelor of Science (Engineering Degree)
Essential experience and job requirements
- Azerbaijan Citizenship
- 15-years (or more) experience in the Oil & Gas Industry
- 10-years (or more) experience in a Supervisory capacity
- Well Intervention Pressure Control, valid certificate
- Demonstrated English language proficiency (written & spoken)
- Demonstrated safety leadership, teamwork, communication skills
- Demonstrated implementation of risk assessment processes
- Stand-alone Supervision for sandface and upper completions
- Stand-alone Supervision for gravel packs, slickline, e-line, coil
Other Requirements (eg Travel, Location)
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, demonstrated by an ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Skilled in the design and execution of completions for oil or gas wells.
- A willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time to offshore locations in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position, as needed.
