Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Group Management System Procedures and client specific requirements, where appropriate.
  • Ensure all rig crew training is carried out in accordance with the Group management system procedures, approved codes of practice, best practice and relevant HSE legislation.
  • Observe/coach deck and drill crew members, as and when required, while conducting their daily work routines ensuring that Best Practice is being maintained.
  • Intervene in tasks where there is a deviation from the original agreed plan.
  • Highlight any new codes of practice and legislation relevant to the Rig Superintendents, their Line Supervisors and crew members.
  • Make planned visits to relevant locations and ensure all KCA DEUTAG Drilling Group personnel are completing their required training schedule as per the relevant training matrix. Highlight any shortfalls to the Rig Managers / Rig Superintendents with regard to the training needs of their crew members.
  • Attend safety meetings / toolbox talks, pre-shift briefs etc. whenever possible, during location visits and participate in all safety programmes and initiatives that promote the safety culture of the KCA DEUTAG Drilling Group of companies.
  • Develop and produce relevant training material (such as TIPPS, Lesson Plans etc.) to meet identified training needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of training conducted and communicate these in a timely manner to the relevant focal point within the Training and Development Department for inclusion in the training database. Conduct office administration, as and when required, and keep up to date with procedures.
  • Ensure that all training materials are reviewed periodically for relevance and recommend changes, as and when identified.
  • Rig visit reports to be completed within a reasonable timescale to ensure issues can be addressed and SAP updated.
  • Maintain 30 / 60 / 90 day training schedule in accordance with operational needs and notify the Training and Development Team Leader of any changes.
  • Maintain all records in a secure and confidential environment.
  • Maintain an industry knowledge and understanding of competence assurance issues that affect the KCA DEUTAG Drilling Group.
  • Ensure that the submitted competence elements are verified and the employees’ records are updated thus enabling accurate reports to be run.
  • Monitor and coach inexperienced assessors to ensure that they follow the company’s regulations during the assessment process.

Key Skills/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience of training / coaching within the oil industry and preferably should also have experience of working in different locations.
  • Drilling experience/background advantageous.
  • High HSE awareness and the ability to promote a safe culture within trainees.
  • Appropriate language skills.
  • Assessor’s qualification.
  • Good degree of computer literacy.
  • Effective supervisory, coaching and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivator.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safe working practices, policies and legislation.
