Role synopsis BP is the largest foreign investor in Azerbaijan with a leading position in oil and gas industry. BP operates two world-class upstream oil and gas joint ventures (JVs) together with other major oil companies and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR): Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) oil and Shah Deniz (SD) gas condensate fields, one of the largest terminals in the world (Sangachal Terminal) as well as three pipelines: Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline, Western Route Oil Pipeline and South Caspian gas pipeline. BP is also the operator of Shafag-Asiman exploration Production Sharing Agreement (PSA). With current production of about 700,000 barrels of oil per day and 8 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per annum, the business is set to grow significantly beyond the current footprint with aspirations to turn into a major gas exporter into Europe.

BP Azerbaijan Business Development team, as part of Finance function, brings together high-caliber motivated professionals. Working closely with BP’s Regional Leadership Team and JV partners, Business Development team manages commercial activities for the existing large base business built over the past two decades and drives significant growth agenda, building world-class oil and gas industry in Azerbaijan and the region. BP is now looking to recruit a high-performing professional to join its dynamic Business Development team and provide an attractive reward package and career progression opportunities.

The successful candidate will be a senior individual contributor and/or leading a team of professional staff to provide Business Development and/or JV Management support to BP-operated JVs: ACG, SD, Shafag-Asiman PSAs or BTC pipeline.

The role is accountable for the effective interfacing and conduct of commercial negotiations with external Joint Venture partners through structured committee meetings and SOCAR. The role is also responsible for ensuring the delivery of all BP internal and external Finance reporting requirements for relevant Business Development, JV and Commercial Operations activities.

The role reports to Head of Business Development, ACG and Exploration.

Key accountabilities Business Development

Support and/or lead Business Development activities through:

• Developing and implementing commercial structures to support oil and gas sales to local and export markets;
• Developing and negotiating commercial terms and agreements with partners and SOCAR;
• Supporting and/or leading upstream related commercial activities across the oil or gas value chain working closely with downstream trading arm of BP (e.g. Oil and/or Gas Marketing Manager);
• Supporting the team in developing and evaluating options to maximize value of PSAs and/or JVs;
• Supporting and/or leading investment governance (incl. Financial Memorandum (FMs), Authority to Negotiate (ATNs), Authorisation for Expenditure (AFEs), Management Information Notes) for relevant activities;
• Supporting Commercial Operations activities and negotiating changes to existing Commercial Agreements;

JV Management
Support and/or lead Joint Venture management activities through:
• Joint venture governance including coordination for PSA management activities;
• Managing the schedule, agenda, presentations and minutes of PSA partner meetings as required: e.g. Technical, Finance/Commercial, Management Committee meetings and own the partner relationship process in totality;
• Preparation of PSA Annual Work Programme and Budget (AWP&B) for partner and SOCAR review and approval and in-year performance reporting;
• Managing JV Partner audits;
• Supporting Commercial Operations activities and negotiating changes to existing Commercial Agreements;
• Management and external reporting of oil and gas net-back value and entitlement calculations.

Essential Education Degree in Finance / Business Administration / MBA

Essential experience and job requirements 12+ years rounded Finance experience with strong business negotiation and deal making skills within Oil & Gas / Banking / Financial Institutions

Other essential skills and knowledge

• The role requires in depth understanding of economic evaluations, commercial optimization and requires a strategic thinking capability.
• Experience in oil and gas, energy infrastructure or heavy industry development
• In-depth understanding of investment evaluations and cash flow analysis
• Experience in contract management and commercial negotiations
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships in resolving issues;
• Effective team player when working as part of a diverse team;
• Advanced level of English (written and oral).

Desirable criteria & qualifications

• Experience in managing JV relationships, partner or Board meetings
• Performance Management and financial Control and Assurance
• Supervisory experience
