Primary Job Purpose: write a statement explaining the job’s overall purpose, in doing so, try to answer the question “why does the job exist?”

• The purpose of this job is to take a lead role in planning, costing and overall delivery of technical projects within multi discipline areas in such a way as they remain commercially viable, technically sound and meet customer requirements.
The post holder carries responsibility for leadership within the Industrial services sector, maintaining close contact with technical developments and bringing innovation to the business.

Key Accountabilities: a few short sentences to define the key “delivery” elements of the job and the results it is expected to achieve. These are timeless i.e. they do not change unless the job changes significantly.

BP office

• Technical review of FM work scopes with the BP corrosion team.
• Arrange and conduct offshore surveys as required.
• Agree paint specification with client.
• Agree annual/project targets with client.
• Ensure full compliance with the BP 8Q planning process.
• Creating and completing Backbone/SAP Work orders.
• Create workpacks and CTR requests.
• Create & submit completion packs.
• Attend BP planning meetings as required.
• Produce and send weekly FM summary to interested parties.

SC office

• Assist with ops planning.
• Attend and lead weekly FM meetings at SC.
• Produce and send monthly FM figures in to SC.
• Seek and act on business development opportunities (including non-FM related).
• Work with the Ops team to avoid potential “bottle necks” for resources.
• Quickly identify any risks to the delivery of the FM program.

Key Responsibilities: short single statements describing main tasks of role:

• Organising & Supervising Projects on and offshore
• Ensure excellent standards within the project discipline, co-ordinating closely with HSE activity and Quality procedures.
• Assist with planning and organising technical projects collaborate closely with appropriate Project Managers to ensure timely and appropriate allocation of required resource.
• Maintain links with industry specialists to maintain and update technical knowledge.
• Promote learning and development through team coaching, technical innovation and leadership.
• Provide technical support to Operations Teams and project activities.
• Work closely with Business Development and Technical Sales teams to ensure integrity of costing models in use, contributing to their development and effectiveness.
• Project Engineering & Supervisory support (offshore)
• Respond to enquiries from customers concerning new or potential work professionally and swiftly.
• Assist with the specifications of work required, including the methodologies proposed, the technology required and the estimate of labour, materials, machinery and equipment
• Assist with obtaining costs where sub contract labour or hire of equipment is required.
• Provide or assist in the preparation of method statements and risk assessments for contracted work.
• Support Business Development and Technical Sales staff in preparation of proposals or tenders.
• Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environmental regulations, working practises and customer or site requirements are accounted for.
• Build and maintain an effective relationship with client or their representative, which will endure through the duration of the project.
• Troubleshoot with operations and or customers where there are technical problems for speedy and viable solutions
• Follow all commercial and administrative procedures established in the business.
• Keep a watching brief over the job, its timescales and costs in comparison with estimates provided, troubleshooting with the appropriate Operations team where necessary.
• Information Management
• Ensure that Team Leaders are conversant with responsibilities and comply fully with timesheet & work pack paperwork being completed correctly.
• Ensure all required information is recorded and sent in to office.
• Provide regular projects updates as agreed with Project Manager.
• Managing Employees
• Ensure up to date and comprehensive personal Health & Safety training and certification to required standard.
• Ensure that company Health and Safety policies and procedures are known, read and understood.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies, procedures and working practises, incorporating those specific to customer sites.
• Report accidents and near misses and assist in any investigations.
• Work closely with HSE Manager and Project Manager, taking steps to prevent further incidents at the time, and assist with implementing recommendations following H&S report.
• Liaise closely with customer where an incident is reported, or takes place to maintain and restore confidence, and keep informed of progress and action taken.
• Health and Safety
• Hold good knowledge and understanding of Group H&S Policy, IOSH certification and COSHH regulations.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Action Plans, and reporting HSE information as required within the region.
• Review method statements, risk assessments on a random basis to ensure they are applicable, and appropriate prior to commencement of work.
• Enlist support of technical team where necessary to compile or improve safety documentation.
• Deliver an organised programme of toolbox talks to improve appropriate level of knowledge and communications.
• Report immediately any safety incidents or near misses in accordance with procedures, taking steps to prevent further incidents at the time and complying with recommendations following H&S report.
• Liaise closely with customer and Project Manager where an incident is reported or takes place to maintain and restore confidence and keep informed of progress and action taken.
• Business Development
• Channel opportunities with existing customers for work which could be undertaken by Cape appropriately.
• Keep a watching brief on competitor activity, alerting appropriately any identified opportunities for new work and new customers.

Other features of job (shift, travel, working conditions if applicable)

• Minimum of 3 years “proven” experience in a similar project engineering role
• Good communication skills at all levels
• Current offshore survival training (BOSIET) & medical (or ability to obtain this qualification)
