Role synopsis

A number of Instrument and Control Engineer positions are available for Azeri nationals with engineering experience in this discipline. Successful job holders will be responsible for delivering specialist technical support and assurance for integrated control and safety system (ICSS), hardware and software systems, Field instrumentations,Safety Instrumented System (SIS) and Fire & Gas system whether it is for onshore, offshore topsides, hull or subsea systems .

Key accountabilities

• Design, installation and verification of Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS), Plant Logic Controller (PLC), Field instrumentations and Fire & Gas system
• Study of alarm rationalisation.
• Develop and maintain BP’s internal instrument and control Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs) and Site Technical Practices (STPs); Involvement with the development of industry standards and practices, e.g. International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Engineering Equipment and Materials Users’ Association (EEMUA) and/or International Society of Automation (ISA), National Electrical Code (NEC), API.
• Analyse and optimise plant performance (including with advanced control and optimisation).
• Participate in Root Cause and Failure Analysis (RCFA); Participate or lead Control Hazard & Operability (CHAZOP).
• Provide technical guidance on application of codes, standards, project design criteria and Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs); Assist the business to develop, maintain and help ensure on-going compliance with BP requirements and support the Instrument & Control Community of Practice (CoP) and the wider Instrument, Control and Electrical (ICE) Network.
• Participate or lead Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Understand role of Layer of Protections, Basic Process Control System, Safety Related Alarm (SRA), Safety Instrumented System (SIS), Safety Requirements Specification (SRS), safety valves
• Participate in SIS verification ( PFD calculation) process
• Selection of field instrumentations and Fire & Gas detectors
• Develop more junior Instrument & Control Engineers in the team, supervising the quality of their work, and assisting their development plans.

Essential Education

Minimum bachelor degree in Instrument & Control Engineering.

Essential experience and job requirements

• Minimum 3 years Experience with instrumentation and control systems in Industry, preferably in Oil & Gas.
• Experience in the Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) design , operation and/or maintenance at oil and gas processing facilities
• Experience of operator training simulators, data historians, loop tuning, alarm systems, digital security and human machine interfaces.

Other essential skills and knowledge

• Knowledge of Instrument & Control installations in the Oil & Gas industry, ideally including hardware and software configuration of Distributed Control System (DCS) / Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and SIS.
• Working knowledge of industry and government standards such as International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) , The Engineering Equipment and Materials Users’ Association (EEMUA) and/or International Society of Automation (ISA), National Electrical Code (NEC), API requirements for facilities
• Interpersonal and communicative skills with ability to liaise and operate with vendors, engineers and technicians in a multi-cultural environment.
