Head of Drilling Engineering

A leading Oil & Gas company, located in in Baku, Azerbaijan is looking for an exceptional The Head of Drilling Engineering, reporting directly to COO Drilling. A successful incumbent will be responsible for managing, supervising and providing strong leadership to the Drilling Engineers in the Drilling Engineering Department.

The Drilling Engineering Manager is a member of the management team that will plan, develop and execute the drilling and exploration program.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage well program development, standardization and technical support
• Ensure that all aspects of HSE are integrated into the design and execution of your well programs
• Manage the optimization of drilling operations to provide cycle time reductions, reduction in costs and increased operational efficiency
• Establish and negotiate performance based service contracts based on footage, turnkey and bonus pricing mechanisms for optimal efficiency.
• Assign, direct and evaluate projects within drilling engineering team.
• Work with the Supply Chain team to provide input & suggestions on service contracts
• Work closely with the supplier community to trial new tools & technologies that will lead to measurable performance improvement.
• Manage Drilling engineering program budgets
• Report to executive management in regard to performance, costs, accomplishments and challenges.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

Education:

- University degree in petroleum engineering or mechanical engineering
- IWCF Well Control (Surface stack, Supervisor level) certified or equivalent.

Experience:

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
• Minimum 3 years of experience in managing teams and people
• Working as a Drilling Supervisor on a drilling rig and well service operations is an advantage
• Experience working offshore involving sour gas/condensate wells, drilling high pressure/High temperature exploration wells ( Both on and offshore) and drilling unbalanced hole sections ( Drill pipe and Coil Tubing Unit)
• Knowledge of drilling contracts would be beneficial.
• Skills:
• Ability to direct the management and simplification of large amounts of data - analyze, interpret and integrate data from a wide variety of sources including daily drilling reports, directional surveys, mud reports, rig operations, AFE and budgets, and geologic data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills utilizing sound engineering principles.
• Hands on knowledge of drilling rigs, support equipment, drilling plans and design.
• Takes initiative to gather data for problem solving and analysis.
