POSITION SUMMARY

The Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database. DBA involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. The DBA is an integral member of the Technology and Information Services Team and reports to Chief Information Officer (CIO).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Ensure data security and integrity all while providing the required support to maintain the Student Information System (Banner Student by Ellucian) in good operational state, as well as all associated components of the Oracle database system;
• Complete all analytical tasks required for the development, maintenance and improvement of the Student Information System, including technologies based on Oracle;
• Monitor and ensure the requirements and interdependencies of supported versions of software product used are compatible, for example Banner, Oracle, Argos, JAVA and OS versions of MS Windows and Linux;
• Contribute to the planning of projects involving the Student Information System upgrades, as well as performing the necessary software installations and system configurations associated with these projects, including technologies based on Oracle;
• Regularly verify the data backup and restore procedures and the disaster recovery procedures for the Student Information Systems, as well as analyze and fine tune the system performance;
• Provide support for the productivity tools Argos (by Evisions) associated with the Student Information System;
• Act as the lead and contact person in resolving technical problems with the various solution providers such as Ellucian, Oracle, Evisions and others;
• See to the continuous improvement of the security policies, according to industry best practices;
• Stay up to date on new information technologies;
• understand and support the University’s business processes and applications, including their effect on data and reporting, and applies that knowledge to improve data analytics and reporting systems;
• work with end users in various departments across campus to resolve issues and ensure that database applications are meeting the needs of the end user. Develops reports and custom requests for users as needed and necessary;
• responsible for designing, building, and supporting the components of business intelligence services, data warehousing, data analytics, and data visualization and reporting tools;
• support colleagues in the Technology Information Services Department in the implementation, data migration, maintenance and upgrade of enterprise applications with respect to their underlying database systems and integration with other information systems;
• establish documentation for procedures and processes required to maintain the integrity and operation of the university's database and reporting systems, and ensures they are continually maintained;
• developing academic and functional reports directly from database and using reporting tools like Argos;
• other duties assigned by CIO.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, System Engineering or other related field of study;
• Experience with Oracle 12c, excellent knowledge in SQL and PL/SQL, ability to create complicated queries;
• Good knowledge in Operating System, Oracle database architecture and Oracle tools. Understanding physical architecture of database;
• Experience with third party reporting tools such as Argos.
• Demonstrate significant working knowledge of ERP programming languages, messaging and development environments;
• Demonstrate good time management and change management skills;
• Be someone who takes initiative, is dynamic, with strategic and critical thinking skills;
• Demonstrate the ability to complete tasks requiring attention to detail;
• Demonstrate a self-teaching approach in the learning of new technologies associated with Oracle database management and the Student Information System (Banner Student by Ellucian);
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively;
• Have a good knowledge of written and spoken English;
