An Intern/Gallery Assistant role is available within an ambitious contemporary art gallery based in London and in Baku.

We are seeking for an enthusiastic, capable and proactive candidate with creative thinking combined with reliability, time management and efficiency. We look for a confident and positive individual able to play a wide range of supporting roles, adapt to different tasks and be resourceful when problem solving.

The Intern/Gallery Assistant will report and directly support the Gallery Managing Director with administrative services/research and will support the Production & Logistics Manager in preparing and handling exhibitions & events. As a member of our small gallery team, the incumbent will be also involved in a wide range of activities such as press and public liaison, logistics, curatorial and client research, and gallery development.
Experience in either public or private art’s sector would be a bonus, but applicants from other backgrounds will be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative tasks:
- Order office or retail supplies, answer phones, issue and manage written correspondence.
- Set up or confirm appointments or events’ schedules with artists, curators, clients or visitors.

Media/PR
- Work closely with the London team preparing mails-out, press releases, online and offline material, and event invitations.
- Provide documentation of the exhibitions; take pictures of the work-in-progress and the final work.
- Assist with the gallery’s activities in relation to the public sector and the art’s community (front of house, private views, exhibitions, workshops and talks).
- Greeting and provide information to visitors about current exhibitions, and all aspects of the gallery.

Logistics
- Assist the Production & Logistics Manager with arranging transportation / delivery of art works, arranging travel for artists or staff.
- Assist with the development, installation/de-installation and delivery of exhibitions and events.

Research/Sales
- Conduct research on museums, galleries, art fairs and auction houses locally and internationally.
- Resourcing and analysis on potential or existing clients to support the gallery’s client base.

SKILLS:

- Ability to work independently & self manage time efficiently.
- Developed verbal, written and communication skills.
- Flexibility and strong attention to detail.
- Problem solving ability.
- Team player. Ability to work closely with colleagues/suppliers with a diverse cultural background, locally and abroad.
- Interest in contemporary art. Knowledge of its practices and in the industry in Baku and outside.
- Demonstrable analytical and research experience.
- Advanced knowledge of spoken and written English.
- IT Skills: Competent computer skills including use of both MAC and PC platforms Microsoft Office and Adobe Suit.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Minimum of one year experience in a related field
- Bachelor’s degree
- A background in art history is desirable, though not required.
