Role synopsis

As Project General Manager (PGM), the key role is to lead the Delivery Team through the successful execution of the project up to handover to operations and close-out, with a key focus on integrating and aligning the various functions (e.g. HSSE, operations, engineering, PSCM, construction, project services etc.) and managing the delivery of the project on a day-to-day basis.

Key accountabilities

HSSE Management

• Visibly demonstrates commitment to HSSE, safe design and build quality by making them central to decision making and delivers the project in accordance with all HSSE, process safety and quality management requirements. Business Alignment
• Responsible for leading/ guiding the project team towards achieving clear and quantifiable business results with project’s objectives. People Management
• Accountable for integrating and aligning the various functions. associated with the project through identification and resolution of conflicts and development and implementation of an effective communications plan.
• Responsible for ensuring sufficient resources are available across the Delivery Team to meet the schedule requirements.
• Responsible for ensuring adequate communication and alignment exists within the project management team, Project Delivery
• Responsible for resolving key issues (including any impact on other functions) associated with the design or execution strategy.
• Accountable for meeting all schedule and cost targets, and for complying with all BP and partner reporting requirements.
• Responsible for leading and managing a philosophy of ‘Management of No Change’ and, where required, managing any changes.
• Assists liaisons with the project’s key external entities: partners / government / community / and regulators
• Accountable for developing the Project Execution Plan for the Execute stage activities, including production of an integrated schedule and for subsequent monitoring, reporting and controlling of this plan as needed

Essential Education

A degree in Engineering and Full membership of a recognised Engineering or Project Management institute or organisation

Essential experience and job requirements 

• Extensive experience of leading major projects and understanding project management process and practices
• Experience of implementing HSSE requirements on major projects
• Previous experience of implementation of procurement and contracting processes
• Knowledge of measures / metrics / planning / and tracking and forecasting tools and techniques
• Experience in construction
• Experience of commissioning
• Experience of building capability and providing the tools, systems, resources and training needed to build deep competence.
• Highly advanced Leadership ‘soft skill’ techniques
