Whether it be using the latest subsea technology to access oil from the deepest oceans, building some of the worlds biggest production facilities or designing pipelines that cross several countries, we have some of the largest projects and most complex engineering challenges in the world.

Role synopsis

Project Engineers will support delivery of onshore facilities associated with the Shah Deniz 2 development. Project engineers will work through the construction and commissioning phases of the project. Based in country, these project engineers will be the primary point of integration for engineering, construction, procurement and project services, for allocated packages.

• Engineering interface with Construction Management Contractor and Operations management team
• In Country third party Interfaces
• Technical liaison between the interfacing groups / stakeholders at existing facility
• Management of engineering and project execution questions, change management / resolution Successful candidates may be allocated to greenfield or brownfield scopes, depending on experience.

Key accountabilities

• Champion BP’s expectations on HSE & Quality Build
• Ensure a commitment to best HSSE performance by management, contractor and contractor’s workforce
• Establish technical and construction engineering routine with contractor construction & engineering personnel.
• Review of engineering deliverables & provide regular project status reports of engineering and PSCM deliverables in line with project schedule;
• Responsible for Construction group Risk & Lessons Learned activities
• Manage effective communications between engineering, technical, construction, project controls groups, PSCM, Operations and design engineering contractor.
• Provide assistance to the project construction manager.
• Lead BP’s expectations on quality and integrity throughout the fabrication and construction process
• Manage technical interface between design engineering contractor, Operations and Construction Management Team
• Organise and manage TAR related activities
• Work with C & EA teams to ensure Azeri Authority approvals are achieved
• Ensure the construction effort is being applied in accordance with project schedule and BP GPO construction defined practice.
• Development assistance for the Mechanical Completion execution plan for contractor construction of terminal facilities
• Deliver constructability reports and ensuring the contracts’ SOW account for constructability issues
• Agree and monitor ROS dates with E & P
• Manage the clarification of contractor requests for change in scope, or for design engineering introduced change through a robust MOC process.
• Ensure reviews and understandings of all previous AzSPU Terminal contracts lessons learned have been completed and understood by the delivery teams
• Agree individual contracting strategies for the Terminal Execution contract deliveries
• Development assistance for the construction execution plan for Onshore Terminal
• Deliver Construction input into Engineering Design
• Ability to lead by example / control of groups of engineers / technicians / craftsmen

Essential Education 

• Minimum: Recognised Engineering Degree (HNC / HND may be considered with appropriate experience)

Essential experience and job requirements 

• Demonstrable HSSE Leadership and personal commitment to Safety
• Awareness of BP or similar safety management systems.
• Track record of experience gained in similar oil and gas / petrochemical / power generation related international projects, in a similar role leading to development of the following skill sets: o Working with the engineering contractor and understanding engineering process o Ability to monitor engineering progress and understanding technical challenges o Site Integrity Management (IM) standards and the application of IM at fabrication sites in greenfield or brownfield projects o Control of Work processes during execution
• Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and communicate with discipline engineers
• A proven decisive and pro-active team player with good communication skills
• Proven ability to develop procedures , practices and strategies from first principles
• Previous experience in major oil and gas projects, in Brownfield locations, (preferably within onshore gas terminal facilities)
• Previous knowledge and experience of working with the BP system handover management process (formerly GOC) or equivalent
• Competent in communicating in English language, both verbally and written
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Good inter-personal skills
• Track record in developing technical personnel into a competent workforce
• Ability to produce written reports and procedures

Desirable criteria & qualifications 

• Ability to interact with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument and Process Engineers & Technicians
• Computer literate in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
• Deep understanding of Commissioning and Completion process’s
• Experience of developing and understanding project schedules (in P3P6 format)
• Ability to read basic engineering drawings, (Isometrics, structural and piping GAs, SLDs, etc)
• Understanding of Greenfield or Brownfield work practices (depending on specific role) / COW systems
