INTERPRETER / TRANSLATOR 

Main Base:

Team Leader’s Office, Baku (with some travel to Contract locations)

Position Reports to:  

Team Leader / The Engineer’s Representative

Job Purpose Summary:   

Under the direction of the Team Leader / Engineer’s Representative, performs interpreting / translating services of oral and / or written communications between English and Azerbaijani languages in a variety of situations. Duties will include office administration work as outlined below.

Key Responsibilities 

1. Interpreting:

 - Providing interpreting for internal, external and public meetings, interviews, telephone calls, etc. including one to one and group settings.
 - Communicating information / messages maintaining content, context, and style as much as possible.
 - ‘Controlling’ the flow of information at meetings to ensure that the Team Leader receives all information from others and is able to fully participate in the discussion.

2. Translating: 

- Preparing written translations of technical and instructional materials, correspondence and forms from English to Azerbaijani and / or from Azerbaijani to English.
 - Reviewing translated material for accuracy of meaning, grammar and syntax. - Checking original text or conferring with authors to ensure that translations retain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original material.
 - Checking translation of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation.
 - Proof-reading, editing, and revising translated material.
 - Referring to reference materials such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopaedias and computerised terminology banks as needed to ensure translation accuracy.

3. General Administration: 

- Managing Correspondence logging system
 - Maintaining filing systems and office functions
 - Utilising equipment such as computers, photo copy machines, binding machines, etc..

Person Specification:

Knowledge and Abilities: 

- Good knowledge of both English and Azerbaijani grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 
- Knowledge of methods of compiling and organising data. 
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication in the English language. 
- Ability to verbally translate spoken material to and from English and Azerbaijani language(s). 
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and people at all levels.
- Ability to assertively ‘manage’ interpreting information at meetings and other group events.
- Ability to maintain alphabetical, numerical, and subject filing systems. 
- Ability to work in an organised, methodical and systematic manner.
- Good knowledge of general office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Ability to deal courteously with people, supplying general and technical information in a clear, concise manner.  

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Requirements: 

- A high school diploma or its equivalent and significant experience in translation and interpretation of English.
- Additional related education or certification may substitute for the required experience.

- Minimum requirements when applying are statements of:

o anyother qualifications as evidence of an appointee’s ability to perform the work properly.
