Role synopsis

Environmental Advisor is a focal point of contact for environmental issues within designated BP AGT Region (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey) facilities. Environmental Advisor is responsible for co-ordination of development, implementation and maintenance of the area Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001 standard and provision of day-to-day environmental support and promotion of environmental compliance.

Key accountabilities

• Contribute to implementation of BP’s Operating Management System requirements on Environment and Compliance. Understand legal and Group Defined Practice (GDP) and Group Recommended Practice (GRP) environmental requirements and be able to interpret and effectively apply legal requirements at area level to reduce environmental risk
• Work together with designated Compliance Advisor to support the AGT Region Compliance agenda to ensure Compliance risk reduction
• Implement and maintain effective Environmental Management System (EMS) within the area of responsibility in compliance with ISO14001 requirements to ensure that environmental Policies, Procedures and documentation (waste management plan, monitoring plan, aspect & impact registers, environmental records etc) applicable to area are kept up-to-date and implemented
• Enforce, supervise and control the implementation of company environmental policy through regular visits to designated area with inspections/audits, environmental awareness campaigns
• Develop internal and external reporting as per relevant Company procedures and legal requirements. Conduct or contribute to environmental performance analyses related to the designated area
• Contribute to the AGT Region audit and assurance programme (Support ISO 14001 external certification audits, act as internal auditors for EMS audits and Compliance audits etc.)
• Implement site/facility environmental monitoring program as per AGT Region Environmental Monitoring Strategy and Programs
• Assist with regulatory agency inspections and follow-up as requested regarding any non-compliance issues

Essential Education

University degree in Engineering, Natural Science (Biology, Chemistry etc.) or Environmental Science

Essential experience and job requirements

• 1 plus years industry experience as environmentalist

Desirable criteria & qualifications

• IEMA Certificate, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Certificate
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), engagement and team-working skills.
