Role synopsis

The Rig Engineering (AGT) Project Engineer will be responsible for the repair / upgrade and optimisation of the company-owned offshore drilling rig installations in collaboration with our Drilling Contractor (KCA Deutag) and our Engineering Contractors (RDS / PD&MS Energy). The Rig Engineering (AGT) Project Engineer has expertise within the Drilling, Completion and Intervention (DC&I) disciplines with focus on drilling and rig related projects and is the primary source of technical advice to the organizational Technical Authorities (TA). The role requires close alignment with the well operations teams in Baku and BP personnel in similar roles in both the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico. The Rig Engineering (AGT) Project Engineer will report directly to the Project Lead – BP Rig Upgrades.

Key accountabilities

• Direct our Engineering Contractors toward timely and cost efficient delivery of rig related projects such that they are delivered to schedule, scope and budget
• Manage the planning and scheduling activities for delivery of rig related equipment repairs, modifications and upgrades.
• Serve as a technical expert for drilling and rig related equipment.
• Be a resident technical expert on the rigs and rig equipment for each BP or Contractor, rig working in Azerbaijan.
• Manage the technical evaluation and deviation permits for any exceptions to the Engineering Technical Practice (ETP’s).
• Be engaged in the review and consultation of all Management of Change’s (MoC) relating to their specific responsibilities and projects.
• Participate in Hazard Identifications (HAZID) / Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) and technical assurance processes with the ACG Region.
• Manage the corrective actions of weaknesses and inefficiencies in the current rig systems and equipment, and approve cost effective repairs / upgrades / replacements / modifications as identified by studies.
• Manage rig equipment upgrade / modification engineering studies for safety critical issues and implementation of expedient and cost effective solutions.
• Manage the interface with our Engineering Contractors, Vendors/Suppliers, and Drilling Contractors to implement agreed solutions and optimizations.
• Assist in the preparation of a yearly budget for the control of the rig repair, up-grades, and modifications work program.
• Contribute to the development a long term strategy for ownership and integrity assurance of the BP owned rig fleet in Azerbaijan.

Essential Education

• University Degree or Technology Certificate in Engineering.

Essential experience and job requirements 

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in rig repair / upgrade / modification management both technical and operational.
• Excellent witten and spoken English.

Desirable criteria & qualifications

• Strong project management background in rig equipment upgrade and modifications.
• Knowledge of Planning tools
• Industrial experience, including a combination of hands on, supervisory and engineering activity.
• Understands the principles of risk management. Ability to initiate and participate in task risk assessments.
• Experience in participating in HAZOPS and HAZIDS for Management of Change proposals.
