JOB TITLE: Retail Manager
REPORTS TO: Area Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. SALES GENERATION
Set daily, weekly and monthly targets with Retail Supervisors and implement SMART action steps.
Drive daily, sales staff to achieve and exceed monthly sales targets.
Manage the department discount and FOC/GWP policy.
Make use of mall promotions and events to increase sales.
Give regular feedback to Retail Supervisors and staff on daily and monthly targets.
Set monthly SMART goals to improve underperforming areas, products, brands, and staff.
Manage showroom events and promotions.
Ensure daily power talks to all staff – by self and by Retail Supervisors.
Measure category sales contributions, basket value, sales per sq m.
Initiate own ideas to improve the sales.
Identify relocation of brands, counters, products, categories.
Set targets for cross selling and sell up (average basket value).
Complete the daily, weekly and monthly retail outlet checklists.
Incentivise good performance.
B. CUSTOMER SERVICE
Ensure that all staff implements the Paris Gallery customer service standards.
Keep all promises made to customers.
Refer back to customers within 24 hours of query.
Manage CSS and get daily feedback regarding customer related issues.
Ensure regular follow up on all customer repair issues (watches/accessories/sunglasses).
Ensure all customers are escorted to the cash desk on closing the sale.
Ensure adherence to PG procedure document.
Ensure each and every customer is will serve, satisfied and closing the sales is done efficiently.
C. PROMOTIONS AND EVENTS
Explain the mechanics of promotions and events to staff.
Ensure staff, including cashiers, explains promotions to customers.
Order promotional stock in advance where applicable.
Manage departmental merchandise and displays in conjunction with the Retail Supervisors paying close attention to window displays.
Set sales targets in conjunction with Retail Supervisors and monitor progress.
Supervise visual merchandise implementation prior to promotional activities and/or events and ensure adherence to standards.
D. MERCHANDISE PRESENTATION & HOUSEKEEPING
Complete the merchandising checklist.
Display all merchandise according to company standards and guidance.
Display of new lines timeously.
Monitor the company housekeeping standards at all times.
Ensure all housekeeping duties are done on an ongoing basis.
Review in-store and window displays on a daily basis.
Check all relevant signage and positioning.
Inspect housekeeping and merchandising daily.
Ensure the whole shop is clean and tidy at all times.
Maximize hot spots.
Evaluate brand positioning in relation to sales contribution.
E. STAFF MANAGEMENT
Ensure that staff is well groomed according to company policy motivate and inspire the team to achieve company goals and objectives.
Coach Retail Supervisors to set goals to improve their performance.
Proactively manage succession planning.
Use the disciplinary procedure in consultation with the Area Manager.
Ensure performance management with all staff.
Plan annual staff leave, days off and shift schedules.
Identify manpower requirements and mix.
Conduct staff meetings monthly and supervisor meetings weekly and follow up on all action steps - ensure achievement of set agreed action steps.
Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Ensure that all communications are strictly executed according to the correct line management structure.
Maximize available resources.
Conduct interviews for new staff and refer them to Area Manager.
Finalize staff issues so as to minimise the need to refer matters to Head office or the Area Manager.
F. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Ensure that new staff are welcomed and issue JD to be signed of within 30 days.
Ensure new staff is trained on showroom operations and policies.
Identify poor performing staff and give them on-the-job-coaching or take disciplinary action where appropriate – maintain adequate documentation.
Identify and develop second in charge.
Attend training and developmental courses.
G. STOCK MANAGEMENT
Ensure top selling lines are in stock in consultation with Retail Supervisors.
Plan how to move slow selling stock in consultation with Retail Supervisors.
Inform Brand Manager and/or planners of any stock related issues.
Ensure stocks transfers in and out are done within 48 hours.
Accept return of goods in original condition and with proof of purchase.
Manage damages and breakages.
Monitor stock delivery and acceptance procedures.
Ensure daily stock take is done accurately.
Manage ideal stock levels and forward cover.
Make use of testers and samples for appropriate purpose.
H. SUPPLIER LIAISON
Maintain professional relationships with all suppliers.
Ensure consistent communication with suppliers.
Satisfy supplier requests timorously in coordination with Area Manager and Brand Manager.
Ensure all suppliers, GWPs, FOCs, testers and all promotional offers are not being misused.
Manage and monitor beauty assistant’s schedules.
Ensure all company sales information are dealt with strict confidentiality.
I. MARKET AWARENESS
Gather market intelligence regarding competitor’s prices, products and promotions and inform the section supervisors and management.
J. EXPENSE MANAGEMENT
Manage controllable showroom expenses.
Manage staff turnover through positive performance management.
Analyze monthly P & L report and action queries and out of line areas.
Set SMART goals where applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS
University degree in business/ commerce/ marketing or sales + A Diploma in Management Studies; A Postgraduate qualification preferred.
EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years experience in retail business s/r related
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of retail sales management principles and exposure to the FMCG, fashion accessories, healthcare, beauty care industry.
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
Knowledge of marketing principles, promotions and events management.
Knowledge of retail advertising, sales promotion and/or visual merchandising techniques.
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
Knowledge of procurement rules and regulations.
Knowledge of retail floor merchandising and stock control procedures.
Knowledge of purchase orders and related accounts payable documentation.
Knowledge of budgeting cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
Knowledge of human resources management principles
Knowledge of English language.
Computer skills
Mid user level in MS-Office and windows operating system
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
