Job Description for Training Assistant in Human Clinical Disease Recognition

This posting is for a position related to the Collaborative Biological Engagement Program (CBEP) that is being administered in cooperation between the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Government of Azerbaijan. The successful applicant for the position of trainer of human clinical disease recognition will be a graduate of the State Medical University of Azerbaijan.  This person will provide foundational training for physicians and future Government of Azerbaijan trainers in the recognition and response to infections caused by Especially Dangerous Pathogens (EDPs) using DTRA and MOH approved training materials. Examples of EDPs are brucellosis, anthrax, tularemia, plague, Tick-borne encephalitis, etc.

Responsibilities
• Train Ministry of Health (MoH)-selected physicians in the clinical recognition of and response to infections caused by EDPs.
• Revise, adapt, and assist in the translation of existing CBEP training curricula, as well as develop new training materials as needed, to fulfill program and Government of Azerbaijan requirements, including formatting, version control, and translation quality assurance.  Additionally, undertake regular updates to support a sustainable and country-appropriate Training Program. 
• Assist with the development of legal guidelines and documentation that supports sustainment of CBEP training in Azerbaijan.
• Support the integration of CBEP techniques and normalization of activities at engaged facilities through on-the-job training, mentoring, and the facilitation of communications, as needed.
• Support the development and implementation of CBEP research projects that involve and train Azerbaijani scientists and clinicians.
• Follow DTRA procedures for the approval, scheduling, and reporting of training activities.
• Maintain training records to facilitate entry into an electronic database to track training scheduling, student enrollment and progress.
• Produce and edit training reports and documents, as required.
• Participate in teleconferences, meetings, reporting and management activities, as required.

Background
• Doctorate degree in clinical medicine from the State Medical University of Azerbaijan.  Background or training in infectious disease preferred.
• 2-5 years’ experience in clinical practice or academic teaching institution preferred.
• Experience in delivering formalized instruction preferred, such as through a university, technical school, NGO, government institution, or private training program.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English; fluency in Azerbaijani and, preferably, Russian.
• Good organizational and communications skills.
• Capable of efficiently performing duties using common computer software applications – MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Reader.
• Capable of understanding program goals and needs, adapting to rapidly-changing circumstances, working efficiently, making timely decisions, communicating clearly, and responding to oversight and managerial direction.
• Ability to travel within Azerbaijan for up to 2 weeks at a time.
