SUMMARY:

The Biosafety and Biosecurity Trainer is responsible for the development and delivery of training on Biosafety and Biosecurity to a diverse community of academic, clinical and research faculty and staff. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Develops and delivers biological safety training on multiple topics to a diverse community of academic, clinical and research faculty and staff; writes follow-up training reports.
2. Provides guidance in all matters related to biosafety and biosecurity, including interpretation of rules and regulations, risk assessment, and establishment of required bio-containment practices
3. Conducts biosafety inspections of CBEP-engaged laboratories that work with human and/or animal pathogens. Identifies corrective actions and writes reports.
4. Provides guidance to researchers in the field or laboratory regarding safe work practices
5. Provides guidance and direct instruction on regulated medical waste management, treatment and disposal programs;
6. Develops and updates biosafety and biosecurity standard operating procedures
7. Inspects, investigates incidents and complaints, and recommends or coordinates corrective action as needed
8. Provides consultation and technical leadership to all project organizational levels in the areas of biosafety and biosecurity.
9. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Desired Skills:

1. Knowledge of laboratory safety, including biosafety cabinet operation, fume hoods and laboratory ventilation, personal protective equipment, and chemical handling
2. Experience in risk assessment and management of infectious agents and potentially infectious materials, recombinant DNA materials and technologies, and biological toxins; Hazard analysis, risk assessment and management of chemicals  and biological materials;
3. Experience in delivering formalized instruction preferred, such as through a university, technical school, NGO, government institution, or private training program.
4. Proficiency in written and spoken English.  Fluency in Azerbaijani.
5. Good organizational and communications skills.
6. Capable of efficiently performing duties using common computer software applications – MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Reader.
7. Ability to travel within Azerbaijan for up to 2 weeks at a time.
