Position Description

SUMMARY:

Based in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Program Coordinator for the Youth Leadership Program with Azerbaijan administers and conducts the program exchange for U.S. participants traveling in Azerbaijan and prepares Azerbaijani participants in preparation for the exchange and oversees post program activities for alumni. The Program Coordinator position is a temporary contract, and will be supervised by the Country Director.

ANTICIPATED POSITION DATES:

This is a part-time paid position that runs from June 1, 2013 – December 31, 2013, with a demand of no more than 20 hours per week. During the month of July 2013 the position is full time (with a commensurate temporary raise in salary) and would require extensive travel throughout Azerbaijan with the U.S. Cohort exchange.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare the Azerbaijan participants for their exchange to the U.S. This includes passport and visa processing, pre-departure orientation administration, and travel logistics; Monitoring Azerbaijani participants during their exchanges in the U.S. The Program Coordinator will help maintain the chain of communication between natural parents and American Councils in Washington, DC while students are on program; Finding and monitoring host families for the U.S. participants. This includes finding host families and following host family vetting procedures in Baku and overseeing the host family process with a subcontractor in Ganja. The Program Coordinator will also be in charge of monitoring host families and working with them during the exchange; Administer the U.S. participants’ exchange in Azerbaijan. This includes content creation, preparation and logistics of the exchange, overseeing of subcontractors in Baku, Ganja, and Sheki, acting as a group leader during the exchange, and follow-on reporting; Support and maintain the program blog; Create content, administer, and organize the logistics for the post program orientation; Budgeting and financial reporting; Monitor, support, and promote the small grant program; Assist when needed with other program related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Working towards a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in international affairs or a related field of study; Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively; detail-oriented; Effective interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities effectively; Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; Computer skills, including strong knowledge of Word and Excel; knowledge of web design programs preferred; Experience in international education preferred; Ability to work in English and Azerbaijani; Immediate availability.
