Job Summary

Under general direction of the site management, the QHSE Coordinator serves as a lead contact and assists the site with the development and the implementation of health, safety, and environmental regulatory programs.
Develops procedures, training, and audit programs to enhance site HSE programs; takes part in maintaining a healthy and safe workplace for employees by assisting with the prevention of accidents and the handling of near miss, first aid, and recordable incidents and by maintaining and exceeding regulatory compliance.
Assists the site to ensure that HSE culture is integrated in a consistent manner into operations and supporting services.

Duties and responsibilities

Performs HSE assignments using safety concepts and principles to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and mitigate HSE hazards for manufacturing, laboratory, and maintenance work areas and activities
Lead QHSE improvement teams, conduct workplace inspections and coordinate with regulatory agencies, emergency responders, internal customers on safety issues
Ensure plant safety programs are compliant with local, state regulations and provide feedback and develop solutions to compliance issues
Ensure all incidents and near miss reports are investigated properly - with adequacy and completeness - and ensure that identified corrective actions are implemented and tracked to ensure sustainability to prevent re-occurrence
Represent the site with regulatory agencies and prepare and manage preparation of all HSE submittals to these agencies and take the lead on any regulatory agency audit/inspection finding
Primary responsibility for developing and conducting plant HSE training and ensuring proper communication of health and safety issues
Conduct audits of the QHSE programs, review results, and prepare and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained; Review existing QHSE policies and revised policies as needed.
Manage compliance, plant safety statistics/data management, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements
Implement/maintain/continue to improve QHSE procedures and processes
Maintain plant inspection process, provide assignments, and follow up on results
Assists to implement and maintain certification of ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001
Assist company HSE Manager with client’s HSE requirements and assists in compliance

Required skills and experience:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical processing
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills – with the ability to effectively address multiple client service.
Clear understanding of QHSE regulations (including but not limited to emergency response, hazard recognition and control, Hazard Communication, hot work, ergonomics, LOTO, etc.)
Strong leadership and interpersonal ability to work cross-departmentally, with regulatory agencies at the local and state level. Must interact with the public and other external parties on QHSE issues. Able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, often mandated externally
Ability to manage confidential information appropriately
